Mozambique 2 - 2 Benin : Squirrels squander two-goal lead

0 nhận xét

Benin surrendered a two-goal lead as Mozambique fought back with goals from Almiro Lobo and Carlos Goncalves to claim a point in the Group C clash.
The Mambas trailed to two early goals and looked set for a heavy defeat before forcing their way back into the game and prompting the 55th-minute error from Benin keeper Yoann Djidonou.Djidonou raced from his goal to kick a through-ball into touch but a quick throw-in found Domingues who squared for Goncalves to slot the ball home with the keeper still running back into his box.Djidonou's opposite number Rafael Kapango was at fault for the opener when he tripped Razak Omotoyossi in the box, allowing the same player to pick himself up and give Benin a 14th lead from the spot.It got worse for Mozambique in the 20th minute when Omotoyossi met a cross from the left by Stephane Sessegnon and Dario Khan's attempted challenge sent the ball into the net for an own goal. But just as Benin seemed set to seize control Djidonou flapped at a 29th minute corner allowing Almiro Lobo to head home and give the group minnows a chance of salvaging something from the game.Benin started the second half well with Khan successfully defending a chance for Omotoyossi while at the other end Mozambique veteran Tico-Tico rolled the ball home after being declared offside.Djidonou's glaring error then gifted an equaliser for Mozambique for a goal which maintained both sides' unwanted records of never having won a match in the African Nations Cup finals.

Egypt 3 - 1 Nigeria : Pharaohs fight back

Egypt made a winning start to the defence of their African Nations Cup crown with an impressive fightback against Nigeria in Group C.

The holders went behind in the 12th minute when Chinedu Obasi Ogbuke scored against the run of play.Egypt equalised through Emad Moteab, however, before Ahmed Hassan's deflected effort completed an impressive turnaround for Hassan Shehata's side. Substitute Mohamed Gedo grabbed a late third.Egypt forced the first opening five minutes in when Nigeria goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama had to be alert to deflect Mohamed Zidan's right-footed shot over after good work by captain Hassan. The holders were stunned in the 12th minute, however, when Nigeria took the lead in style.Picking up the ball on the right, Obasi was allowed to cut inside and force his way to the edge of the area. With the Egyptian defenders backing off, Obasi rifled a left-footed shot beyond a helpless Essam El Hadary to give his side the lead with their first real foray forward.Left-back Hany Said fired off target at the other end while Ayegbeni Yakubu appealed in vain for a penalty after seeing a cross blocked by an unwitting Egyptian arm. Seconds later Kala Uche blasted a loose ball over when he should have done better.Another first-time effort by Uche went wide at one end before Egypt raced to the other and got their 35th-minute equaliser.Breaking forward, Moteab - a virtual spectator until that point - caught Joseph Yobo napping from Hassan's ball and stayed onside, evading the onrushing goalkeeper Enyeama to calmly slot home the leveller.Hassan then turned the game on its head by putting Egypt ahead in the 54th minute. Zidan held the ball up expertly before laying it back to his captain, whose powerful right-footed effort deflected off Taye Taiwo's backside and into the net.
