Juventus goalkeeper Alex Manninger insists there is still time for the Bianconeri to catch Inter Milan in the Serie A title race.

Ciro Ferrara's side welcome AC Milan to the Stadio Olimpico tomorrow lying one point behind their opponents and nine adrift of the league leaders.

Their 2-1 win at Parma in midweek eased the pressure on the coach after Juve ended 2009 with successive defeats to Bari and Catania, but Manninger, who has been deputising for Gianluigi Buffon while the Italy international is out with a knee injury, knows they cannot afford any more slip-ups if they are to challenge Inter.

"There are 20 possibilities (to catch Inter) because that is the number of matches left,'' he said on the Juventus Channel.

"We will try to win them all, knowing that we cannot afford more bad moves. In every match we will need maximum concentration to get the right result.''

The Austrian added: "We needed a different start (to 2010) because at Juventus one cannot accept three consecutive defeats.

"Not even we knew why everything was going so wrong. In Bari we played well and yet we lost. Against Catania we did quite well with a number of attempts on goal but three minutes from full-time they scored to make it 1-2.

"Anyway we needed the victory (over Parma) for the morale.''

Manninger is happy to get the chance to impress in the absence of Buffon.

"Substituting Gigi is my job and I am happy to be able to contribute when he isn't available. Last year I played quite a few matches and I was happy, because it was not part of my plans to join Juventus to be a spectator,'' he added.

"This year I had to wait a bit longer to play and now I am happy to do so.''

Milan returned after the winter break with a thumping 5-2 win over Genoa at the San Siro, which could have been even greater had Ronaldinho scored both, rather than just one, of his penalties.

Current form suggests they, and not Juve, look the likely challengers to Inter.

But Manninger said: "Milan are doing well, but in the last few weeks we have found our determination again and I think this could be seen in Parma.''

Milan captain Massimo Ambrosini has urged his team-mates to keep up the good work following their convincing triumph on Wednesday.

"The win against Genoa was very important considering that Inter and Juve won their respective games,'' said Ambrosini, who won two penalties in the victory.

"But there is still a long way to go, and we need to continue like this.

"On Sunday we face a big game and we must be fully focused in order to come away with three points.''

Juventus will be without David Trezeguet, who has an ankle injury, and defender Martin Caceres, who is suspended following his sending off against Parma.

Fabio Cannavaro, though, who missed that game with a ban, will return.

Milan are set to be without injured trio Clarence Seedorf, Gianluca Zambrotta and Alexandre Pato but David Beckham is available.

Internazionale v Siena: Preview

Inter Milan coach Jose Mourinho is confident his threadbare squad will step up to the plate in their top-versus-bottom Serie A clash against Siena at the San Siro tomorrow evening.

Inter maintained their eight-point lead at the top of the table with a 1-0 win over Chievo on Wednesday but it came at a price, with defender Cristian Chivu suffering a fractured skull in a collision.

Midfielder Patrick Vieira has left to join big-spending Premier League side Manchester City, while striker Mario Balotelli - the match-winner at Chievo - is also missing from the squad.

The teenager was fined by 7,000 euros by the Lega Calcio for provoking the home fans, some of whom he claimed were racially abusing him. The club have announced they will appeal the sanction.

Mourinho knows Inter will miss Vieira, whose time at the San Siro was blighted by injuries, and expects the France midfielder to make a big impression at City - now managed by former Nerazzurri coach Roberto Mancini.

"It's easy for him, because he's going home, back to a championship that he knows,'' said Mourinho of the former Arsenal captain.

"He had two or three years here with one injury every month and without playing two consecutive matches. This year he has had zero injuries. Absolutely incredible.

"He's a player who will be missed by us and the team. There are players who are fundamental even if they are not playing all the time and he was one of these.''

Marco Materazzi returned to action as a substitute for Chivu on Wednesday but has since undergone another operation on his knee, while Esteban Cambiasso, Rene Khrin, Sulley Muntari and Davide Santon are also out.

Inter's troubles mean youngsters Giulio Donati, Alen Stevanovic, Lorenzo Crisetig and Denis Alibec have all been included in the squad.

Mourinho admitted: "It's not an easy moment. We have many players out. But the reply of all those who have come into the team has always been positive and this gives us all confidence.

"We are in difficulty, but we were in difficulty at Chievo, too, and the reply was positive. Tomorrow we are at home so we will have more fans with us.''

The former Chelsea manager, though, does not believe Siena's position will make life easier for his side.

"I remember last year. Inter top against Torino bottom. It ended 1-1, we dropped two points and almost three at the end of the match. These are difficult, complicated matches,'' he added on www.inter.it.

Siena coach Alberto Malesani wants to see more from his side after a limp display that saw them surrender 5-1 at home to Fiorentina last time out.

Malesani insists he would have understood his players losing to the European hopefuls but was distinctly unimpressed with the manner in which they slumped to defeat.

With his side four points adrift of safety at the bottom of Serie A, a match against the league leaders may not be the ideal opportunity to record a first win in three.

Nevertheless, Malesani is still hoping for an improved performance.

"It was a very strange game against Fiorentina,'' said Malesani. "You can lose against Fiorentina, a very good side, but not in that manner.

"Despite my team producing a good start to the game, we found ourselves three goals down and, from then on, everything just became more and more difficult.''

Serie A: Parma 1 - 2 Juventus ( video)

Bianconeri rely on own goal
An own goal from Paolo Castellini helped ten-man Juventus claim just their second win in seven games at Stadio Ennio Tardini.

The defender headed into his own goal after the hosts had failed to clear a corner, with the 30-year-old only able to steer the ball past the helpless Antonio Mirante.

Hasan Salihamidzic had headed Juve into an early lead before veteran forward Nicola Amoruso grabbed an equaliser for Parma.

The visitors were looking to keep the pressure on Serie A leaders Inter Milan and got the perfect start as they took the lead in just the third minute. A deep corner was headed goalwards by defender Giorgio Chiellini and Salihamidzic was ideally placed to nod home his second goal of the season from close range.

That goal led to an extended period of Juve pressure, with right-back Martin Caceres offering superb support with several energetic bursts down the flank.

French forward David Trezeguet had a chance to extend the lead but his weak header was comfortably dealt with by Mirante.

But Parma soon recovered their composure and began to string together some promising attacks and Jonathan Biabiany forced Alex Manninger into his first meaningful save of the game with a powerful drive from the right edge of the penalty area.

Juventus were then dealt a blow as Trezeguet was forced to limp off after just 18 minutes, the France international landed awkwardly after going for a high ball with Christian Panucci, with Amauri replacing the 32-year-old.

Things got worse for Ciro Ferrara's side as former Juventus player Amoruso netted an equaliser for Parma (24).

Damiano Zenoni delivered an excellent cross to the near post after good work by David Lanzafame, and Amoruso was unmarked as he headed past a motionless Manninger.

Caceres was then booked after a late tackle on Biabiany and the home side, boosted by their equaliser, gradually took control of the game.

Amoruso went close to giving them the lead but the 35-year-old's dipping volley was turned over the crossbar by Manninger.

But Castellini's misjudgement gave the visitors a lead they barely deserved. The home defence were unable to cope with an inswinging corner and as the ball bobbled through a crowd of players the defender was unable to prevent himself heading into the top corner (38).

The game tightened up after the break with Juventus seemingly happy to protect their slender lead.

Zenoni connected superbly with a poor headed clearance but Chiellini bravely blocked his fizzing volley.

At the other end Amauri failed to latch onto an intelligent pull-back by Diego, while Salihamidzic fired wide from distance.

Juventus' relative comfort was dealt a blow when Caceres was shown a second yellow card for a lunge on Cristian Zaccardo after 72 minutes.

The dismissal saw Diego withdrawn for Zdenek Grygera and the Czech defender's expertise was desperately needed as Parma laid siege to Manninger's goal.

The excellent Amoruso fired wide after being teed up by substitute Valeri Bojinov, while Zaccardo's long-range drive was comfortably saved by Manninger.

Bojinov then struck the wall with a free-kick during six minutes of stoppage time, but Juventus held on for a much-needed win to lift the pressure on Ferrara.

Serie A : AC Milan 5 - 2 Genoa Borriello shines at San Siro

AC Milan moved back into second place in Serie A thanks to a convincing win over Genoa which also marked the return of David Beckham to the Rossoneri.
In front of England manager Fabio Capello, Beckham played a strong 75 minutes, slotting back into the Milan team he represented 18 times last year as if he had never been away.
Giuseppe Sculli gave Genoa the lead in the 25th minute, but a penalty from Ronaldinho, who had missed an earlier spot-kick, brought the home team level in the 32nd minute.

Thiago Silva gave Milan the lead at the break before two goals from Marco Borriello early in the second half and a penalty from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar put the game beyond Genoa, who grabbed a 79th-minute consolation from David Suazo
Beckham was straight into the action, whipping in a cross from the right wing which Borriello nudged towards goal, but Marco Amelia made an excellent reaction save to deny him, making up for his own error in finding the England midfielder with a poor clearance.
Milan had the chance to go ahead in the 13th minute when Massimo Ambrosini went down in the penalty area as he attempted to take the ball past Giuseppe Biava.
Ambrosini seemed to look for the penalty and perhaps it was a case of justice being done when Ronaldinho's tame kick was saved by Amelia.
Beckham opened the scoring when these two sides met last January and he was given the chance to do so again in the 16th minute, but Ambrosini's pass forced the England international a bit wide and his shot did not trouble Amelia's goal.
Genoa were trying to make a game of it and they were rewarded with the opening goal in the 25th minute.
The lively Mesto guided Palacio to the goal line from where he sent in a low ball across the face of goal to an unmarked Sculli at the far post, and he headed in the opener from close range.
Milan were level in the 32nd minute when a well-worked move involving Beckham and Borriello put Ambrosini through, and he took another tumble as he nudged the ball past Amelia.
Again, the Italy international seemed to be looking for the penalty, but Ronaldinho this time took the invitation to send Amelia the wrong way from the spot and bring the home side level.
And Milan went ahead in the 38th minute when Thiago Silva beat Amelia and the covering Genoa defenders from eight yards.
Milan did not have to wait too long before extending their lead with Borriello getting his name on the scoresheet three minutes into the second half.
A perfectly-weighted ball from Ronaldinho sent Antonini to the goal line and he kept a cool head to hold up the ball before providing Borriello with a simple tap-in.
Antonini was the provider of the fourth goal too, sending the ball deep into the penalty area where Borriello struck it acrobatically in off the far post from 15 yards.
A fifth goal followed, and it was yet another penalty for the home side with Marco Rossi this time holding Ronaldinho back illegally inside the area.
Beckham seemed to want to take the spot-kick, but Ronaldinho snatched the ball from him. In the end, captain Ambrosini had to step in, and he gave the ball to Huntelaar, who made no mistake from the spot.
Beckham left the field in the 75th minute to warm appreciation from the Milan fans.
Suazo grabbed a second goal for Genoa in the 79th minute, but the damage had already been done.

Pandev stars on debut

Serie A leaders Inter Milan picked up where they left off with a narrow victory over Chievo this lunchtime in the first match after the winter break.

Mario Balotelli netted the only goal of the game early on to lift the Nerazzurri 11 points clear of city rivals AC Milan.
As predicted, Goran Pandev was given his debut by Inter boss Jose Mourinho after signing from Lazio despite having been frozen out of the first-team picture at the Stadio Olimpico for the last four months.
But, after winning a ruling to have his contract with Lazio terminated just before Christmas, the 26-year-old found himself thrown straight into the action.
And he thought he had netted his first goal for the Serie A champions only 12 minutes into his debut.
The lively Sergio Pellissier, who had already drawn a save out of Julio Cesar, thought he should have had a penalty when he was bundled over in the Inter area but the referee waved play on and a speedy break from the visitors ended with Wesley Sneijder playing in Balotelli in acres of space.

The striker, who has been linked with a move away from the San Siro, saw his initial shot saved by Stefano Sorrentino.
He beat the keeper with his second effort, which was hacked away by Mario Yepes straight to Pandev, who headed the ball into the corner of the net.
However, replays confirmed the ball had already crossed the line and it was Balotelli's goal.
Maicon then drew a decent save from Sorrentino with a speculative effort from 30 yards but Patrick Vieira could not test the keeper from 20 yards as he sliced a shot horribly wide.
Diego Milito was the next to try his luck after he was cleverly played in by Maicon but, off balance, he could not direct his shot on target.
Twelfth-placed Chievo had their moments in the first half as well and Elvis Abbruscato stretched on the six-yard line but could only poke an effort that did not stretch Julio Cesar.
Sneijder was then denied by a last-ditch tackle from Yepes while defender Cristian Chivu, who has not scored for four years, embarked on a jinking run but his shot was deflected over.
From the resulting corner, Lucio's header was cleared off the line, although the referee decided the Brazilian was pushing his marker and blew for a foul.
There was a nasty clash of heads between Pellissier and Chivu in the opening seconds of the second half.
Chivu could not continue and was replaced by Marco Materazzi but a groggy Pellissier was able to carry on. The Romania defender was taken to hospital.
And the striker was then denied by Julio Cesar from Chievo's clearest opening. He controlled the ball well on his chest but could not get a clean shot away.
Abbruscato then had possibly an even better chance but, unmarked, he could only poke the ball past the post from close range.
Pandev earned a warm round of applause from the Inter fans when he was replaced by Ricardo Quaresma 67 minutes in.
Both sides struggled to create clear-cut chances from then on but Chievo felt hard done by in the last of six minutes of stoppage time when Quaresma appeared to punch the ball off Yepes' head in the area.
Their appeals for a penalty, though, fell on deaf ears and Inter held on.

Fiorentina  v  AC Milan

19h:45 UK live football online match: Fiorentina  v  AC Milan
Fiorentina wing-back Juan Manuel Vargas insists his team will not be afraid of high-flying AC Milan when the Rossoneri visit the Stadio Artemio Franchi in the final round of Serie A matches before the winter break.
The Viola will be eager to bounce back from last weekend's 2-1 loss at Chievo that saw them drop to ninth in the standings - four points behind Parma, who hold the last Champions League qualifying spot.
And Vargas is confident the hosts will more than hold their own against Leonardo's side tomorrow.
The 26-year-old told La Nazione: "We know the quality of AC Milan, but we should not worry about the result.
"Fiorentina can do harm to anyone as we have demonstrated on several occasions. So we respect Milan but do not fear them.''
Vargas has been linked with a move away from Italy recently, with Real Madrid thought to be among the potential suitors.
But the Peru international claims he remains fully focused on the task in hand at Fiorentina.
"Today I am more calm. Maybe in the past few months I have grown, improved. I'm settled,'' he said.
"My future? I do not like to look too far ahead. I prefer to live day by day.
"And for me, at this moment, there is only Fiorentina.
"Real? I know that certain rumours are circulating. But these are rumours and should be considered as such.''
Defender Alessandro Gamberini and midfield duo Cristiano Zanetti and Marco Marchionni will be unavailable to Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli due to injury.
Milan will be without defenders Thiago Silva, Massimo Oddo, Daniele Bonera and Oguchi Onyewu for the trip to Florence.
The Rossoneri saw their unbeaten streak in Serie A come to an end after almost three months in last weekend's 2-0 defeat to Palermo.
The outcome left Milan second in the standings, five points behind city rivals Inter Milan after 16 games.
Tomorrow's trip will evoke memories for Milan of the last game of last season - a match which saw Kaka and Paolo Maldini play their last appearances for the Rossoneri, who were under the guidance of Carlo Ancelotti for the final time.
The visitors ran out 2-0 winners on that occasion, and defender Kakha Kaladze is confident his team are well placed to pick up another positive result although he is under no illusions as to the quality of ninth-placed Fiorentina.
The Georgia international told Corriere dello Sport: "Fiorentina have great desire to win and will not be easy because they are a great team.
"But Milan at this moment is the best team in the championship, both physically and psychologically.''
Kaladze has seen his first-team opportunities limited under new coach Leonardo this term, but has no intention of seeking a move away from the San Siro.
"I am pleased that so many teams have shown an interest in signing me, but I have not spoken to any,'' added the 31-year-old.
"I am a Milan player until 2011 and I am happy and proud to wear this shirt, because I have won a lot with Milan.''
