Llorente header sinks Real

Fernando Llorente's early header proved the difference between the sides as Athletic Bilbao pulled off a shock win over Real Madrid in the Primera Division.
Spain striker Llorente nodded home from a corner after just two minutes and the home team held on for a fine win, Athletic goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz denying the visitors with a string of great saves.
The Basques were reduced to 10 men in stoppage time when Carlos Gurpegi was sent off for a second bookable offence but there was no time for the capital club to capitalise on their numerical advantage.
Madrid are always made to work hard at San Mames, but won the corresponding fixture 5-2 last season.
Fran Yeste was dismissed in that match following a scuffle with Iker Casillas.
The Madrid goalkeeper exaggerated the contact then and was given a hard time by the Athletic fans even before this match had kicked off.
And Casillas, who made his debut at this ground at the tender age of 17, had to pick the ball out of his net after just two minutes.
Yeste played a part, whipping in an excellent corner which Llorente met with aplomb to head home and give Athletic the perfect start.
Llorente is always a danger in the air, but the striker was surprisingly left all on his own by Madrid's central defensive partnership of Ezequiel Garay and Raul Albiol.
Those two, in the absence of the injured Pepe, had led Madrid to back-to-back clean sheets in the last two matches, but they were negligent as Athletic took the lead and had looked uncomfortable from the outset as the Basques flew out of the blocks.
Joaquin Caparros' side could have taken the lead even earlier, twice rattling the woodwork in the opening minute, firstly through Gurpegi's piledriver and then as Gaizka Toquero struck the post from the rebound with the goal at his mercy.
Madrid, now behind, soon settled and Karim Benzema - in for the injured Gonzalo Higuain - tested Iraizoz after seven minutes following Xabi Alonso's miscued effort.
The France striker then tried his luck from distance, but Iraizoz was up to the task once again and made the stop.
Madrid came close to an equaliser midway through the half.
Cristiano Ronaldo's shot was parried by Iraizoz, but the ball span back towards goal and the Athletic keeper did well to scramble clear at the second attempt, despite tripping over the Portugal winger.
Kaka then set up Benzema, but the former Lyon man was this time denied by the post.
He probably should have scored, but the leveller was remaining elusive for a now dominant Madrid outfit.
Alonso was denied by Iraizoz after that and Garay headed wide as half-time approached.
Athletic went in ahead at the break still clinging onto their early lead.
It looked as if they would be unable to hold out for the entire second half, though, as Madrid continued to pressure.
But the visitors struggled to get going after the interval.
Ronaldo should have equalised on the hour, but the former Manchester United star - one on one with Iraizoz - shot straight at the Athletic keeper.
Kaka was also denied by the former Espanyol number one and sent another great opportunity fizzing over the bar later on.
It was proving a frustrating night for the visitors and particularly Kaka.
The Brazil forward had another good chance with eight minutes left, but failed to hit the target this time and Athletic's fans breathed a sigh of relief.
Gurpegi was sent off for a second bookable offence deep into stoppage time, but it was too late to matter and Athletic stood firm to secure a fine win.
The result saw Athletic climb to seventh place in the standings on 30 points - 11 less than second-placed Madrid.

Real fail to take top spot

Real Madrid missed the chance to overhaul Barcelona and climb to the top of the Primera Division table as they were held to a 0-0 draw at Osasuna.
Requiring victory in Pamplona to go above their Catalans rivals on goal difference, the visitors were limited to long-range efforts in a poor first half, before having penalty appeals waved away in first-half stoppage time after Cristiano Ronaldo theatrically went to ground while attempting to make space for himself on the edge of the box.
Osasuna had two scrappy opportunities, but Gonzalo Higuain missed a gilt-edged chance on the counter attack and despite bringing Karim Benzema and Raul off the substitutes' bench, the visitors were held in a stalemate to lie two points behind Barcelona in the title race.
In a city famous for its bull run, Madrid struggled to grab the game by its horns in a stop-start first half.
Brazil playmaker Kaka, who had been tipped to return from a hernia problem, was absent again and the visitors were not nearly as creative or clinical as in their last Primera Division clash, the 6-0 home win over Real Zaragoza prior to the winter break.
Raul Albiol fired a speculative long-range effort well over after 11 minutes before Marcelo sliced well wide after 21 minutes.
Rodrigues Roversio headed wide from Nacho Monreal's free-kick as Osasuna threatened for the first time after 32 minutes.
Madrid then had a set-piece opportunity at the other end after Javad Nekounam was booked for a foul on Lassana Diarra.
A corner resulted and Rafael van der Vaart found Ezequiel Garay, who could only head wide.
Van der Vaart then saw an effort held by Ricardo before Osasuna came close to shocking Real before half-time.
Juanfran's corner caused havoc in the visitors' defence, with Carlos Aranda's strike hitting Garay before Alvaro Arbeloa scrambled clear.
Ronaldo then neatly brought the ball down on the edge of the area but as he attempted to weave around the Osasuna defence, he was blocked by Nekounam.
The world's most expensive player tumbled to the ground, but his theatrical fall did Madrid no favours as the referee waved away appeals for a penalty.
Marcelo had a shot stopped by Ricardo, Higuain had an effort from the edge of the area blocked and Ronaldo shot off target with a 30-yard free-kick as Madrid again failed to find the target.
Higuain then combined with Marcelo in the right channel to carve open the Osasuna defence before the Argentina international dragged his shot across the face of goal.
The striker had an even better chance a few moments later, but only after Sergio Ramos had flicked the ball away at the back post after Monreal's teasing cross from the right.
Real broke at pace for Higuain to go through on goal, only to see his effort tipped over by Ricardo.
Substitute Benzema shot wide from 12 yards before being joined up front by Raul, who took the place of Higuain.
But Osasuna's rearguard continued to frustrate the star-studded visitors.

Video Barcelona 1 - 1 Villarreal : Barcelona held at home

0 nhận xét

Barcelona dropped home points for the first time in the Primera Division this season as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Villarreal at Camp Nou.

Pep Guardiola's side showed off the six trophies they had won in 2009 prior to this game, in what was intended to be an evening of celebration for the Catalan club in their first match of the year. And they looked to be on their way when Pedro, who scored in all six of those competitions, opened the scoring after just seven minutes.
But the Yellow Submarine failed to read the script and David Fuster levelled for the visitors within six minutes of the restart.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic missed a great opportunity for the hosts late on, but it was not to be.
After winning their sixth trophy of 2009 with an extra-time success over Estudiantes in the Club World Cup before Christmas, Guardiola warned against a period of relaxation following such an epic effort.
And Villarreal, unbeaten in their last two visits to Camp Nou, came into this match on form, having won six of their last eight games in La Liga.
This would be their biggest test by far, though, and they did not look up to the task when they went behind after just seven minutes.
With Lionel Messi given special permission to miss this match, Pedro started on the right and the Tenerife-born forward made a quick impression as he swept home from close range after Thierry Henry's shot had come back off the woodwork.
Yaya Toure and Seydou Keita were also missing for Barca, while Andres Iniesta was left on the bench after his recent injury. That meant a first-ever league start for Jonathan Dos Santos, brother of former Barca forward and current Tottenham player Giovani. Sergio Busquets also started in what was an unfamiliar midfield for the Catalans.
The experienced Xavi was still pulling the strings, though, as Barca stroked the ball around with their usual aplomb. Ibrahimovic almost made it 2-0 after 20 minutes, but blasted his effort over the bar.
Villarreal goalkeeper Diego Lopez got down brilliantly to save Henry's powerful header four minutes later as the home side looked to kill the game off early on. But the visitors were looking dangerous on the break and Fuster headed over from a good position after 27 minutes.
Pedro then almost got on the end of Henry's clever pass as normal service was resumed for Barca.
The second goal was remaining elusive, though, and the home team still had just a one-goal advantage at the break. And just over five minutes into the second period, that was gone.
Fuster, who a minute earlier had fired over the bar with only Victor Valdes to beat, made no mistake at the second time of asking as he drilled an angled drive past the Barca goalkeeper at the far post to level the scores.
Guardiola's side huffed and puffed after that, but lost fluidity after the goal and appeared ruffled by the visitors.
Iniesta came off the bench and tested Diego Lopez with a neat drive, but the home side were struggling to penetrate a disciplined Villarreal back-line now.
Ibrahimovic should have clinched it with nine minutes left, but the Sweden striker flashed his shot just wide from the edge of the box.

Barcelona v Villarreal : Party time for Barca

0 nhận xét

Barcelona  v  Villarreal

Barcelona will begin the new year amid a party atmosphere as they prepare to celebrate their incredible six-trophy haul from 2009 at the Nou Camp prior to their clash at home to Villarreal.
Barca scooped an historic treble of league, Copa del Rey and Champions League titles last season, their first under former captain Pep Guardiola.
And the Catalans subsequently added the Spanish and European Supercups to their list of titles won in 2009, as well as the World Club Cup last month.
That unprecedented haul of six trophies is impossible to better and means Guardiola has won all of the competitions his team have competed in since his arrival as coach.
The new year begins with Barcelona top of the league this time around, with a two-point lead over fierce rivals Real Madrid.
The Catalans host Villarreal in their first match of the year, and will show off their six trophies to the Nou Camp crowd before that clash.
Barca have invited players who left the club in the summer, most notably striker Samuel Eto'o, who left to join Inter Milan, to participate in the celebrations.
Following their World Club Cup win in December, Guardiola said that his team would struggle to maintain their intensity, with a natural period of relaxation likely.
However, full-back Eric Abidal claims Barca are fired up for the game against Villarreal.
"This match is the most important one because it is the first of 2010, it's at home, Villarreal are a good team and I'm sure they will be coming here looking for a good result,'' he said.
Abidal believes that a repeat of last season's treble is unlikely, but hopes Barcelona can win at least one title at the end of the current campaign.
"We still don't know what will happen, but it (winning the treble) is difficult to repeat - we know it is complicated to win titles,'' he said.
And the France full-back says the league is Barca's main priority this season.
"The league is our objective, and then there is the Champions League, which is always a goal as well,'' he said.
Abidal was sent off as Barca failed to beat Villarreal at the Nou Camp last season. Following his dismissal, Barcelona relinquished a 3-1 lead on a night when a win would have seen the Catalans crowned league champions.
The match ended 3-3 and Barca's celebrations were put on hold for another week.
Guardiola's side are virtually full-strength this time around, although Jeffren and Seydou Keita miss out through injury.
Villarreal changed coach in the summer, when Manuel Pellegrini left the club after five years to join Real Madrid. The Chilean was replaced by former Espanyol coach Ernesto Valverde.
Valverde was under pressure as Villarreal failed to win any of the first seven league games of his tenure, but the club has since won six of the last eight matches and they are now in the top half of the table, only six points behind fifth-placed Mallorca.
Valverde, who spent two years at Barcelona as a player, says Villarreal will set out for victory.
"We are up against a euphoric rival, but we are going to try and win the game, despite what it means to come up against Barcelona and play at their ground,'' he said yesterday.
Villarreal drew at the Nou Camp last season and won there the year before that, when they finished second in the league.
And Valverde says those results prove the club can compete with the very best.
"We have got good results there in each of the last two seasons and that shows we are a team who can make things difficult for the big clubs,'' he said.
Gonzalo Rodriguez remains sidelined, but Villarreal should be otherwise full-strength for the trip to Barcelona.

Online Watch Real Madrid vs Zaragoza Live Stream Real Madrid vs Zaragoza Spanish Primera División Youtube video Soccer highlights Review Schedule Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini is confident his squad can absorb the loss of another key player to injury as the Spanish giants begin life without Pepe at home to struggling Real Zaragoza.Pepe has been a key member of Madrid's defence since his 30million euro move from Porto two years ago but he us unlikely to play any further part this season after suffering a serious knee injury.
The Portugal international tore ligaments in his right knee during last weekend's 3-2 win over Valencia and, having undergone surgery on Thursday, is set to be out for around six months.
Losing the 26-year-old centre-back is a huge blow for Madrid, who have already seen world-record signing Cristiano Ronaldo miss 10 matches earlier this season with an ankle injury and lost Brazilian superstar Kaka for the final four games of 2009 with a sports hernia.
Pellegrini admits Pepe's injury is a major setback, but he has faith they can cope with the loss, pointing out that international trio Ezequiel Garay, Christoph Metzelder and Sergio Ramos can all play in the heart of defence.
Pellegrini said: "It's a big loss because he is out for six months and there is a World Cup at the end of the season. The club is also hurt because it has lost a great player.
"But like I said when Cristiano Ronaldo was injured, this team is built to have replacements. Garay is the starter, but we also have Metzelder and Ramos who can play there as well.
"If we need someone else, we will analyse the situation carefully.''
Madrid have the chance to close the gap on pacesetters Barcelona back to just two points with a win, with Pep Guardiola's champions having played a game more due to their commitments at the Club World Cup.
Pellegrini's men are firm favourites going into the match, having won all seven of their league matches at the Bernabeu this season and facing a Zaragoza side who slumped into the relegation zone last weekend following their 2-1 home defeat to Athletic Bilbao.
However, that loss promoted Zaragoza to make a managerial change, sacking Marcelino Garcia Toral and temporarily replacing him with B team coach Jose Aurelio Gay, and as such Pellegrini is taking nothing for granted.
"Zaragoza won't be easy because they aren't doing that well and they have a new coach,'' said the Chilean.
Aside from Pepe and Kaka, Pellegrini must also do without Guti and Ruud van Nistelrooy through injury, but Metzelder is fit and has been named in an 18-man squad while Raul Albiol could also be available despite suffering a knock in training this week.
Ronaldo is also available after serving a suspension against Valencia, but Xabi Alonso sits the game out due to a ban of his own.
Zaragoza's defeat to Athletic was their eighth of the season and left them with just one win in their last 11 games.
New coach Gay, a former Madrid B player, has named Braulio in his squad for the trip to the capital with the Brazilian striker finally recovered from the injury that has sidelined him since April.
Ander Herrera could also feature after proving his fitness.
